One day in 2018 I thought it would be a good idea to make bath bombs. The idea was to give as gifts to family and friends rather then buying things from the shop. A great little project and I was quite excited to give it a go. How hard could it be. Lo and behold things did not go to plan.

I spent a bit of time doing some research as I wanted to get things right first time. The internet has a wealth of info about bath bombs. What I learnt is that it's really tricky to make bath bombs. Those bloggers that make it look so easy and don't really tell you that these fickle creates have a mind of there own.
My first bath was too crumbly, back to the drawing board. Tweaked my recipe. Next batch better but rather dusty, so must had more liquids to my formulation. Next time I did and maybe a little too much as these decide they want to grow and grow expanding as they dried. Looks like I reactive the ingredients too much.
I ended up with a mountain of bath bombs that were not good enough to give to friend but ok for me to use. It's 2021 and so many baths later and I only now getting to the bottom of failed attempts pile. Lesson learnt, it not easy to make a good bath bomb let alone a great bath bomb.
I tried a lot of variations to my recipe and and can now say that special formulation works for me. I've tried various ways of combining the ingredients and the way I found the best results is to mix all my liquids together, add all my powder (except the citric acid) then mix the liquids into the powders. When things are mixed well I then add the citric acid and mix through. Then it time to make the bath bombs.
I only use mica powders in my bath bombs. They give a little colour and a little shimmer to the bath water. Mica is a naturally occurring mineral dust often used in makeup foundations. It comes in a variety of colours and helps give a like colour-pop and a little shimmer to my bath bombs.
I avoid glitter in my bath bombs as it is basically plastic and this just adds to the micro plastics that can be washed into the sea. There are alternatives on the market but there a a hefty price tag attached and I want to keep my bath at a reasonable priced.
If you've not tried one of my bath bombs why not give them ago. If you have, then thank you for placing an order, so feel free to share your comments below.
