If you're thinking on reducing your plastic and thinking of trying solid shampoo bars it can feel like big leap. Shampoo bars have been around for a while now and are easily found in the high-street.

My bubbly shampoo bar use carefully selected ingredients that are gentle for your hair so perfect for normal and colour-treated hair types.

How to use a shampoo bar

There are two main ways to use a shampoo bar and you can use both methods as you feel works for you.

Bar application

Once your hair is wet, wet the shampoo bar and gentle drag the bar through your hair several times. Put the bar to the side and work the lather through you hair. Once your hair is washed just rinse and apply conditioner.

Foam in the hand

If you prefer you can wet the shampoo bar and rub in your hands to create a thick lather. Pop the shampoo bar to the side then apply the lather to your hair and work in as usual. Repeat if you want more lather. Then rinse the suds out of your hair before applying a conditioner.

Care instructions for your shampoo bar

After you've used your shampoo bar it is important to allow to dry out between uses. This will help make the bar last longer and avoid going all gooey. You can place it in a soap dish away from the shower if possible. I prefer a wooded soap rack to a dish and a dish can gather water that your bar will just sit in. Once dry, you can store in a travel tin or just leave on the soap rack.

Travelling with your shampoo bar

Shampoo bars are perfect when travelling or going on holiday. They take less space the a bottle of shampoo and last much longer. They can be transported in a soap tin or a travel soap box. In hand luggage they will not count towards you liquid allowance either. Just make sure your shampoo bar has dried before packing away.

Reducing hair static

The best way to reduce hair static is to avoid combing your hair with a plastic comb or brush. The plastic in the comb or brush generates static each time you comb your hair. To avoid this static build up that makes your hair float up is to use a wooden comb or a brush with natural bristles.
